Nonto Shezi - Founder of LadyFe

Nonto Shezi Takes On Make Up Industry

DURBAN – When I started LadyFe I felt that it was time to grow and be more independent since I’ve always loved the idea of being in business. I started working in retail after I matriculated in 2012. Although I had other jobs, I knew I wanted to get a make up job but it wasn’t so easy to get into.

My name is Nontokozo LadyFair Shezi the founder of “LadyFe”. I am a dedicated, professional and kind Make Up artist who loves working with people. My professional skills cover beauty make up, special effects, bridal, special occasions and natural Make Up.

How I started in Make Up

When I started LadyFe I felt that it was time to grow and be more independent since I’ve always loved the idea of being in business. I started working in retail after I matriculated in 2012. Although I had other jobs, I knew I wanted to get a make up job but it wasn’t so easy to get into.

I was intimidated by the beautiful ladies at the counter who always wore their make up so well. In 2015, I decided to wear make up and look for a job in the industry.

I didn’t even care which make up counter it was going to be, as long as I got in.  I dropped off my CV at about 5 stores.  At the last store I went to, the cosmetics manager was on the floor when I walked in and I spoke to her. She called me in for an interview and I got my first job in make up. That was really exciting for me because I felt I was getting closer to my dreams.

I worked for Make Up Brands like Bobbi Brown and Lancôme. Those experiences were the best parts of my life. Working with the likes of studio031, Boss models and Standard Bank at the UKZN graduation ceremony are the best highlights of my career.

Transitioning from employee to business owner

I found myself and my passion but it was time to grow into business. It started with doing a Make Up course at the School of Make Up Artistry (SOMA) in Durban. I got to understand Make Up as a whole and met other individuals with the same drive and passion as me.

I learnt everything from how to apply different types of Make Up and how to run a  business. It boosted my confidence as a business woman and make up artist.

I have been in the Make Up industry for the past 4 years and I proudly registered my business this year in 2018.

LadyFe – Beauty and Special Effects Make Up

LadyFe focuses on beautifying talent for photo shoots, models, brides and any woman who wants to look and feel beautiful.

Soon there will be private make up lessons for women who want to learn how to apply make up in the comfort of their own home.

The reason I started this business is because I’ve always wanted to be an independent woman. I am passionate about what I do and it brings to joy to see my clients happy. The love and passion for what I do is what has brought me here, that’s why even on days where I feel like giving up I just want to push myself harder because I know it wasn’t easy getting to where I am so I give it my all.

My Why

I’m also a young single mother who just wants the best for her 6 year old son. He is my biggest motivation and I want to be a good example to him and for him to know “your dreams are valid”. He must never let anyone tell him his dreams are too big.

What makes LadyFe different from other businesses is that my main focus when I’m working with my clients is “customer service“ and for this I’ve been referred by my clients to their family members, colleagues and friends.

I always want to leave them with a smile and always do my best to make them feel absolutely beautiful and satisfied with my service from the moment they sit on my chair also making sure I give them a great experience.

Most of the work I do is from my home studio. I working my way to owning my own makeup studio. I also travel to my clients who prefer house calls or when working on set.
